What is Facebook UID? How to know your UID
To understand the article, I will first clarify some concepts for you before explaining how Facebook advertising works using UID.
Facebook UID stands for user ID (UID), which is Facebook user identifier. When you create a new Facebook account, Facebook will give you an identification code, for example: https://facebook.com/1234567890, the last number is the UID. Later, you can choose to replace it with a username to make the Facebook link more friendly and easy to share with friends.
Specific example: my facebook is https://www.facebook.com/minsoftware.vn/ then I can also access by Link UID: https://www.facebook.com/589040088211995
And the number sequence: 100001083054998 is my UID.
You can go here to check UID your.
In addition to Facebook UID, there are many other types of IDs such as group IDs, pages, images, posts, etc.
What is Facebook UID used for?
Facebook UID is used to advertise to the right target audience.
For example, if you sell IELTS English courses online, you can target IELTS self-study groups, IELTS Fanpages, then scan their UIDs, then you can get those people's UIDs to create a Custom File and approach them directly. However, today 04/06/2015, Facebook is official prohibit advertising through Custom Files that incorporate user UIDs Mix emails with @facebook.com extension.
Facebook stated the reason for banning advertising through Custom Audiences that integrate user UIDs and emails ending in @facebook.com as follows: “This is one of the changes to ensure ad quality as well as user compliance with the terms of service when using Custom Audiences”. Another factor is that advertisers use too many tools to scan UIDs, causing “pressure” to display ads multiple times to Facebook users.
However, up to now, Facebook has introduced many new features integrated into Custom Audience Files so that advertisers can reach the right target customers, as well as optimize marketing costs. You can refer to creating custom audience files, lookalike audiences to increase advertising effectiveness. I will have a more detailed article on this issue.
So how does Facebook advertising with UID work?
Normally you will need 2 steps:
- First you need to scan the UID of a potential group, a post, or a competitor fanpage.
- Second, you need to find a way to upload this UID list to create a Custom Audience file and then run ads with this file.
So you will need 2 tools, one to scan UIDs, one to upload this UID list to Facebook Ads to use for running ads. This will be the time when you have to pay to buy tools from suppliers. The question is why Facebook has blocked advertising by UIDs but their tools still work? As I understand it, the way these tools work is as follows:
- First you will scan UID from group with UID output rate much higher than 90%, and most of these UID scanning tools are free.
- Then the second tool will be responsible for converting this number of UIDs into customer files, of course at this time the rate will no longer be high. Why? Most of you who have filtered UIDs know that there will be a small percentage of users who make their emails and phone numbers public, and when scanning UIDs you will see this information. And this tool will upload a list of people who make their emails and phone numbers public to create a potential customer file for you. Because Facebook still allows advertisers to upload lists of emails and phone numbers of customers who have purchased products to support advertisers in creating effective similar audience files. Thus, UIDs that do not have phone numbers and emails will not be able to be successfully converted into an audience for you. The conversion rate, as I see it, fluctuates on average around 30%. Some places commit to 60% – 80% because they have big data to compare, but I don't know if that data is accurate or not because I can't verify it.
The question is, are you sure that the Custom Audience file created is correct? Because it must be converted from UID to phone number or Email before it can be put into the account to run ads. Are you sure it is safe?
In fact, if it helps you convert directly from UID to phone number, the price is not cheap, because that is a form of selling customer data, prohibited by Vietnamese law. (Refer to Article 7 of the 2015 Law on Network Information Security, which stipulates the following prohibited acts: Illegal collection, use, dissemination, and trading of other people's personal information; taking advantage of loopholes and weaknesses of the information system to collect and exploit personal information) Therefore, it does not dare to export directly to phone numbers or emails, but it puts them in your Custom Audience file to avoid being scrutinized. So you will not know for sure whether the information is completely accurate or not, just trust their big data....
Running Facebook ads with UID can bring in 1000 orders/day?
I would like to reaffirm that running ads using UID will only bring you a quality “possible” customer file. Why do I use the word “possible” because when you scan a group of 100,000 members in that field, not all of those 100,000 people are potential customers. Why? I will give a funny example as follows:
- 1. In that group, there may be 60,000 fake accounts, added involuntarily because the group owner wants to increase the number quickly.
- 2. 20,000 people who may have had a need a few years ago or have purchased other products or services.
- 3. 10,000 people are sellers like you in that group to take advantage of finding customers.
- 4. So what percentage of your customer base is still potential as an ad, is it any different from running by targeting on Facebook?
Now from the time these people see your advertised product and make a purchase decision is a very long way. Let me give you another example, suppose I am in a potential group and you scan the UID and then you advertise your similar product to me, I wonder how many % I will buy from you. There are too many factors that affect my purchase:
- – Your brand
- - Price
- – Origin
- - Guarantee
- - Transport
- – Customer care
- – The benefits I will get if I choose that product.
You have to understand that Facebook is a channel to stimulate customer demand, not just having a UID and throwing ads into customers' new feeds to get orders. You can read more articles
Not to mention that if you run too many ads to the same UID file (because they scan the same fanpage), it will increase CPM, increase pressure on Facebook ads display, make user experience worse, they hate and don't trust Facebook ads anymore.
If you still want to run Facebook UID ads, what do you need to prepare:
According to what I have analyzed, Facebook advertising with UID is not something as sacred as they say, you also understand its nature and how it works, now it is just up to you to decide whether to run it or not, personally I do not recommend it. But if you feel that your field needs to run this way or you simply want to learn and experience, I have some advice below:
- – You should run on a sub-account, don't be foolish to use the main account because the account can be flagged at any time and Facebook won't bother to explain the reason to you.
- – Choose the object to scan UID wisely, if it is a group, look at the activity level, quality of shared posts, main goal of the group….
- – You should buy tools from reputable suppliers, avoid buying online. Currently, MINSOFTWARE also provides you with software. MAX UID
- – Create appropriate content for each target group you scan, the target groups should also have a large number of over 200,000 to avoid high advertising costs.
Is there a better way to target customers without running Facebook UID?
You can refer to learn more about how to create custom and similar audiences on Facebook, this is the method that Facebook recommends for you to reach and expand your potential customer audience. I will have another detailed tutorial on this method, but I will briefly talk about it so you can understand. Facebook allows you to create custom customer groups that can be people who have interacted with your Fanpage or visited your website, or websites similar to your website. From there, you can create audience groups from these audiences to expand your potential customer group.

For example, if you sell shoes and have a number of customers interacting with your fanpage, you can create this group and ask Facebook to find customers who have similar actions to your customers and then distribute ads to them to expand your customer base. This way, you won't have to waste time thinking and choosing interests for your audience without knowing if it's accurate.
Conclude:
As I have analyzed above, now you probably understand more about how to run Facebook ads using UID and whether you should use it or not. Personally, I sincerely advise that anything that Facebook and Google have banned is best not to do, if you are stubborn, the only one who will suffer is you.
Second, absolutely do not believe in the hype of advertising without calmly considering and leading to blind actions. An obvious truth is that if they can sell 1000 orders/day, there is no reason for them to teach and spend a lot of time advertising this tool for you. Whatever the effectiveness is, you can hide it, people will still know.
Failure in running ads is inevitable, even those with many years of experience often encounter it. What is important is to calmly review the data, analyze customer behavior and psychology, and know the reasons why you failed in order to succeed.
